Shift Rosters
Preparing shift rosters is very important in respect of employees’, performance, health, attendance, outside and family life and retention
The design and implementation of a shift roster is vital to achieving best practice and takes into consideration many factors in their design.
The design shift rosters can involve; –
- 8 hour shifts;
- 10 hours shifts;
- 12 hour shifts;
- Combinations of the above and also shifts of shorter duration.
Rosters may provide for a 42, 38 or 33.6 hour average weekly number of hours per employee depending on the number of crews employed and the hours of coverage during the week, 7 days @24 hours or 168 hours per week.
Shifts including hours of work of varying duration may be rostered on the following basis; –
- 5 day rosters
- 6 day rosters
- 7 day rosters
- 28 day rosters
- Longer (e.g. 3, 6, or 12 months)
Shifts may involve commencing or finishing at different times of the day, including –
- Day and afternoon;
- Day, afternoon and night;
- Day and night;
